Not sure what to talk about at the hair salon?

“Hair salons make me feel a little nervous.”
I’ve heard this more times than you might think.

Everyone feels differently about the distance between themselves and a hairdresser.
Some people don’t feel like talking at all,
while others feel they have to keep the conversation going out of politeness.

But I believe that salons should be a space where it’s okay to stay silent.

During the consultation, I always listen carefully.
But after that, you really don’t need to talk if you don’t feel like it.

Even in silence, your hair says so much.

Split ends, how your hair dries, your natural parting, the thickness and weight—
they all quietly reveal how you’ve been living, and how you’re feeling now.

That’s why I often find myself observing what your hair is “expressing,” more than relying on words.

“You didn’t say much, but somehow it came out just right.”
“It’s relaxing to be here, because I don’t feel pressured to talk.”
Hearing those things truly makes me happy.

Of course, there are days when you want to chat a lot,
and other days when you don’t want to talk at all.

Sensing that kind of atmosphere—
that’s something I take seriously.

A salon doesn’t have to be full of conversation or energy.
It can also be a place where you quietly reset yourself while getting your hair done.
And honestly, I think that’s a pretty great version of a salon, too.
