Why Do Hairdresser Taka’s Clients Often Say “Leave It to You”?

“I’ll leave it up to you.”
About 70–80% of my clients say this when they sit in my chair.

Of course, some clients bring photos or have a specific image in mind.
But in the end, most of them say, “I’ll leave it to you, Taka.”

This can’t be explained simply as a matter of “trust.”
Behind it lies something I value deeply — the time I spend on consultation.

Consultation Is Not Just About “Listening” — It’s About Reading the Heart

My idea of consultation is not just about listening to what clients want.
It’s much more than that.

People can’t always express their true feelings in words.
Even scientific research says that humans can’t fully verbalize what they think.

That’s why I pay attention to every detail —
tone of voice, facial expressions, choice of words, and even silence.
Each of these carries meaning.

“What does this person truly want?”
“What kind of ‘self’ lies behind the hairstyle they desire?”

Reading those unspoken feelings — that’s what consultation means to me.

It All Starts with Acceptance

I never judge my clients’ thoughts or feelings as right or wrong.
Instead, I say things like, “I see,” or “Can you tell me more about why you feel that way?”
I start by accepting everything they share.

Only then do their genuine hopes and wishes start to emerge.

A hairstyle is not just about what looks good or not.
It reflects a person’s personality, lifestyle, environment, and even their current emotional state.

That’s why I always start from a place of non-judgment.
I take in everything that person is feeling and thinking.
That’s the foundation of my work.

Why “Leave It to You” Happens So Often

In the end, I think the reason so many clients say “leave it to you”
is because they feel truly understood.

For example, in fast-paced salons, consultations might last only a minute.
That’s not necessarily bad, but within such a short time,
it’s hard to fully communicate how a client really feels.

“Did they really understand what I meant?”
“Can I trust that they got it right?”
When those doubts remain, it’s hard to completely relax and let go.

In my salon, I only take two clients a day.
That allows me to spend enough time with each person,
to listen deeply and have real conversations.
That’s why so many clients can confidently say, “I’ll leave it to you.”

“Leave It to You” Is a Sign of Trust

“Leave it to you” doesn’t mean “do whatever you want.”
It’s a sign of trust — that the client feels understood
and is willing to let a professional take care of them.

Hair is something we see every day — it’s part of who we are.
That’s why many people look for someone they can truly trust.

To honor that trust, I continue to listen carefully,
to understand each person’s story,
and to create hairstyles that bring out their natural, authentic beauty.
