The One Thing Hairdresser TAKA Will Never Do

I will never deny my clients.

That is the “core” of my work as Hairdresser TAKA.

People often think a hairdresser’s job is cutting hair, doing perms, coloring, and styling.
Of course, that’s an important part of the job.

But for me, the ultimate goal is “to enrich a client’s life, just a little, through a hairstyle.”

To achieve that, there’s one thing I’ve decided I will absolutely never do.

That is: “Never deny the client.”

For example, a client might say:

“I want this kind of hairstyle.”
“This is how I want to be seen.”
“Lately, I haven’t really liked myself…”

In those moments, I will never say:

“No, that won’t suit you.”
“You shouldn’t do that.”
“That’s a little weird, isn’t it?”

I will never outright deny the thoughts and values of my clients like that.

Because the starting point of my work is always to “stand by the client’s feelings.”

Helping clients build self-esteem, even a little.

What I hope most in my daily work with clients is
“to help them like themselves, even just a little more.”

Even if it’s just a small change, if a hairstyle helps someone feel more positive,
that’s the greatest joy I can have as a hairdresser.

It might sound cheesy, but
I genuinely believe in this with all my heart.

But that doesn’t mean I blindly say yes to everything.

Please don’t misunderstand me—
I don’t mean I always follow 100% of what the client says.

Sometimes, due to hair texture or experience, I know something may not be the best idea.
But even then, I won’t start with “No, we can’t do that.”

I always start by affirming.
I carefully listen, understand what they truly want,
and then say, “How about this approach instead?” and we figure it out together.

With the experience of having worked with over 10,000 clients around the world,
I aim to find the best option *together*.

That’s what consultation means to me—it’s a dialogue.

“Your thoughts matter.”

I believe people can only start accepting other perspectives
once they’ve felt truly seen and validated.

So with every client, I begin with this mindset:

“Your thoughts are meaningful.”
“Your feelings deserve to be respected.”

From there, I add my professional viewpoint,
and propose ideas that make their daily life a little easier, more enjoyable, and more comfortable.

This is the kind of hairdresser I, Hairdresser TAKA, strive to be.
