What Is Good Customer Service?

When you hear the words “good customer service,” what comes to mind?
Reading the atmosphere? Enjoyable conversation? A comfortable space?
Or perhaps receiving service in a stylish salon with the latest equipment, or in a luxurious, high-end environment?
The standards differ entirely from person to person.
Some may think, “This person’s service is wonderful,” while others may feel, “It didn’t really suit me.”
In other words, the value of customer service is different for everyone.
The Difference Between Large Salons and Freelance
One of the reasons I became independent as a freelance hairdresser was precisely this issue of “customer service.”
In large salons, a division of labor is the norm.
Receptionists, assistants, stylists… each has their own role, and together they efficiently serve many clients.
From a business perspective, this is a brilliant system, and it is necessary in order to welcome a large number of customers.
But what about for each individual customer?
- The person who shampoos your hair is different every time
- The way you are treated changes depending on the day
- Even if your stylist is the same, the surrounding staff may change and affect the atmosphere
As a result, even though you pay the same price, you might feel, “Today was really great,” or “Today was a bit disappointing,” and your satisfaction can vary from day to day.
This is exactly what I wanted to avoid.
What One-on-One Service Makes Possible
Now, as a freelancer, I work in a style where I personally take care of everything from start to finish.
- The same person is responsible from consultation to finishing
- I can respond to the subtle feelings of customers—whether they want to chat or spend time quietly
- From the strength of the shampoo to the nuance of the finish, I can provide the same standard every time
This ensures that no matter which day you visit, you will receive the same quality of service.
Managing My Own Performance as Part of Service
There is actually one more thing I am particular about.
That is my working hours.
I only work from morning until early afternoon.
The reason is simple—after the evening, my concentration and stamina decrease, and my performance drops.
A hairdresser’s job is not only about “technique” but also about “service” as a whole.
That is why I always want to face my clients in the best possible condition.
As a result, my way of working also benefits my clients.
No matter what time they come, they can receive consistently high-quality service.
Good customer service is not just about “luxury” or “fluent conversation.”
It is about how consistently and sincerely you can respond to what your customers seek.
I believe that this accumulation is what truly leads to “good customer service.”
As a freelance hairdresser, I want to continue providing that value through one-on-one service tailored to each and every client.
