Ferraris and Hairstyles: A Story About “Your Own Sense of Value”

A red Ferrari parked on a London street — a luxury car used as a symbol of how value is perceived differently by each person.
Ferraris and Hairstyles: A Story About “Your Own Sense of Value”

Even with the same Ferrari, the “value” can differ greatly depending on the person.

Some people collect them as a hobby, some own them as an investment, some drive them to show off, and others simply because they genuinely love them.
There may even be people who think a Ferrari is only worth 100 yen.

Isn’t that exactly the same as hairstyles?

Did you choose that hairstyle because you truly “love it”?

For example:
“Because this hairstyle is trending”
“Because my friends might compliment it”
“Because I want to make a good impression on my boss”
“Because I want my family to say ‘Nice!’”

Choosing a hairstyle for those reasons isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

But if you don’t truly like it deep down—
If you chose that hairstyle out of “obligation” or to “save face”,
I wouldn’t strongly recommend that style.

Because in that case, your standard for happiness is being set by someone else—not by you.

Happiness based on others’ standards never ends

The happiness that comes from comparing yourself to others has no end.

Even if you’re ahead of someone, someone else will always be ahead of you.
Chase the latest trends, and a new one will pop up in no time.
There’s no finish line when you choose a style based solely on “how others see you.”

Eventually, it wears you down.
Even though it’s just a hairstyle, it tires out your heart.

True satisfaction begins with choosing for yourself

So what should you do?

What I value is “making your own decisions.”

Being honest with your own likes and comforts,
your own values and lifestyle.
A hairstyle chosen based on that—
even if others don’t understand it—
will be the best hairstyle for you.

The same goes for Ferraris.
Even if two people drive the same car,

  • One might simply love Ferraris
  • Another might enjoy the driving experience
  • Someone else might keep it as an asset
  • Or drive it only to show off

Each person finds completely different value in it.

“Why you chose it” changes everything

The same Ferrari can mean different things.
The same hairstyle can mean different things.

The real question is: Are you satisfied with your choice?

That’s what determines the quality of your happiness.

So when deciding on a hairstyle, I always ask:
“Do you truly love this style?”
“Did you choose it with full conviction?”

Forget about others’ eyes.
No one else gets to define your beauty.

Take responsibility for your own happiness

Choose it because you love it.
Because it excites you.
Because it’s easy to manage and fits your lifestyle.

Choosing your hairstyle based on your own standards
is the same as taking ownership of your life.

Whether it’s a Ferrari, short hair, or gray hair—

The fact that “you chose it for yourself”
is your one and only right answer.

And I’ll wholeheartedly support that choice.
