What Do People Aim for Through Beauty?

When we think about the world of beauty, a fundamental question always arises.
“What do people seek in beauty, and where are they heading?”

This is a theme common to everyone, regardless of gender, age, nationality, or culture.
One answer that is often spoken of is “a baby-like state.”

The Symbol of Beauty Embodied in Babies

A baby’s skin is dewy, their eyes are clear, and their hair is soft and healthy.
Their very presence conveys purity, innocence, vitality, and preciousness.

Everyone sees a baby and thinks “cute” or “beautiful” because hidden within is a universal human standard of beauty.

If, hypothetically, babies were born with gray hair, we might see gray hair as “natural and beautiful.”
Likewise, if babies were born with wrinkled skin, wrinkles might have become a symbol of beauty.

In other words, the image of a baby is “the universal starting point of beauty,” and we instinctively long for it.

Youth as the Recreation of Purity

As people age, hair falls out, gray hairs increase, and wrinkles or sagging appear.
Yet the desire to “stay youthful” is not simply about chasing youth, but about feeling purity and vitality within it.

Wanting to make eyes look bigger with makeup, adding volume to hair, or dyeing gray hair—
all of these actions aim to get a little closer to the natural, healthy beauty of a baby.

Beauty is not just decoration on the surface, but an act rooted in instinct: shaping the longing for a “healthy and pure state.”

The Unnaturalness Born from Excessive Youthfulness

On the other hand, when one aims for youthfulness far removed from their actual age, unnaturalness or discomfort arises.
For example, adopting the trends of a generation 20 or 30 years younger may cause one’s individuality to be lost.

True beauty is not about denying age but about embracing one’s own individuality.
That is why, as a hairdresser, I value proposing “a natural beauty unique to the person” rather than imitating youth.

The Beauty Born from Accepting Age

The desire to “stay youthful” is something everyone has.
At the same time, accepting the changes that come with age is also part of beauty.

  • Rather than hiding gray hair, use highlights to enhance brightness in the expression
  • Use haircuts or perms to supplement volume and naturally create youthful looks

By incorporating “beauty that suits who you are now,” you can naturally draw out charm without strain.

Aiming for Natural Beauty

What people instinctively admire is “the purity of a baby.”
But what’s important is not copying it as is, but incorporating it in a way that suits one’s age and individuality.

Beauty is not about forcibly recreating youth, but about beautifully refining the process of aging naturally.

As a hairdresser, I always strive to maximize “the beauty a person already has now,” without forcing anything.
I believe that is the true way of beauty, one that leaves clients genuinely satisfied from the heart.
