Perms Are Not Just About Adding Curls. Another Important Way to Think About Hair Balance and Suitability.

When people think of perms,
they often imagine things like:
“I want more volume”
“I want wavy hair”
“My hair is too straight, so I want a softer look”

I think these are the most common images people have.

Of course, those things are important too.

But,
there is another important role that perms can play.

That is,
“adjusting the overall impression of the face.”

A perm is not just about adding curls.
It can also be a very effective way to balance the overall appearance,
based on a person’s eyes, facial features, and face shape.

Whether a Perm Suits You Depends Not Only on Hair Type, but Also on Facial Impression

For example, people who have:

  • Sharp-looking eyes or nose lines
  • A jawline that is not rounded
  • Thin lips

People with this kind of
cool or sharp impression.

In these cases,
wearing straight hair with strong straight lines
can make those sharp features stand out even more.

If you want to create a stronger image such as:
“cool”
“mature”
“mode/fashion-forward”

then it can be a very good choice.

However,
if someone wants to look:
“a little softer”
“more gentle and approachable”

adding soft movement or a slightly rounded perm
can soften the overall impression
and create better balance.

On the other hand, people who have:

  • Rounder eyes or nose lines
  • A softer jawline
  • Fuller lips

People with this kind of naturally cute or soft impression.

Adding a soft perm
may make that cute image even stronger.

And if that is the goal, there is no problem at all.

But,
if someone wants to look:
“a little more mature”
“less sweet and more clean/simple”

then choosing straighter hair,
or a hairstyle with slightly sharper lines,
can sometimes create a better overall balance.

In other words,
the important idea is:
“adding a little of what is missing.”

Hair Suitability Is Not About a “Correct Answer,” but About How You Want to Be Seen

A common misunderstanding is:
“Perms suit people”
“Straight hair does not suit people”

But it is not that simple.

The real question is:

  • Do you want to look cuter?
  • Do you want to look more mature?

Or,
while balancing things out,
do you want to move toward the opposite impression?

  • Softer and gentler?
  • Cooler and sharper?

That is the important part.

Suitability is not just about analyzing the face.

It also includes:
“How does this person want to express themselves?”

Only after considering that
does the hairstyle begin to feel truly natural.

That is why,
when I suggest perms or straight styles,
I do not only think about
“whether to do it or not.”

I think about:
“What kind of impression does this person want to move closer to?”

That is what I value most.

A hairstyle is not just about following trends,
and it is not only about changing shape.

It is about understanding the atmosphere a person already has,
how to bring it out,
and how to refine it.

Perms and straight styles
are simply one of the options for doing that.

When you think not only about movement or volume,
but also about:
“How do I want to present myself?”

then choosing a hairstyle
becomes much easier and more natural for you.
